An experimental European Space Agency satellite about the size of a cereal box called Phi-sat-1 is the first-of-its-kind with onboard artificial intelligence. Its Intel Movidius Myriad 2 Vision Processing Unit (VPU) identifies and discards cloudy images that aren't useful — thus saving about 30% of bandwidth. The satellite's mission is to test the viability of satellites with AI, and help monitor the health of our planet. (Credit: Intel Corporation)
