The second day of Hot Chips 2020, again, had many highlights. We discuss three. The second day keynote, Dan Belov from DeepMind gave a nice overview of AI Research. He says for AI we should abandon our complex reliable processors for smaller, less reliable but much cheaper ones.
Next we talk a bit about Cerebras and their pre-announcement of a 850.000 core processor, yes that is one wafer with 850.000 cores.
We close with a real research processor, Manticore from ETH Zürich, based on RISC-V and designed for 64-bit Floating-Point efficiency.
