This talk is about revisiting scaling laws for robotic mobility in granular media. These scaling laws, a recent development in granular mechanics and vehicle engineering first discussed by the Kamrin group at MIT, are the result of using dimensional analysis to address a wheel traversing deformable terrain. There is great potential to use these laws in the development of robotic vehicles such as rovers, and we designed a series of experiments to explore how different changes to the vehicle might affect the output.
